why lovebirdarts? So, I swore
I'd never get a tattoo
unless it really meant something, and would always mean something. I realized
what was important to me junior year, when I was in the darkroom
in high school, worrying about college,
not having a clue what to do with myself. I relaxed
with the amber lights, the running water, the appearing images, my
creativity. I knew
that was it. I decided
to go to school for photography - not business as expected. I
decided to do something I really
believed in. That's
how I found my tattoo
design. On my lower back, right-hand side, there is a tiny red heart
with big
white wings. It's my
reminder that I need
to do what I love, always,
and stick with it. Literally, let my heart fly & follow it. It's my little lovebird. So,
five years later, I've finished school, earned BFA in fine art photo
and am ready to start a new adventure...MIAMI :) Below you can read more about me, view my photoblog and resume, and browse my online shop. Thanks!
a little more about me: I
just graduated from Rochester Institute
of Technology, with a BFA as a Fine Art Photo major in the School
of Photographic Arts and Sciences. As a photographer, I am still trying to find my niche. My overall style is soft, playful and feminine. I enjoy learning new aspects of visual design. I've spent the better part of
2007 trying to figure what would be next for me. I made a dream
list of
all that
I wanted
to experience. On it, unique cultures, the ocean, opportunities
to work with amazing photographers and companies, and of course
a little bit of sunshine. Put them all together and out came Miami!
Photography has taught me so
much
about
myself
and
I am anxious to
see where
it leads me in my career. I have taught
at the Community
Darkroom, which is part of the Genesee
Center for the Arts in Rochester, NY. I taught several adult
classes and a youth program for inner city, at risk youth,
Photo Club 789. I am working on compiling their images for a
web site
and online gallery to showcase their work, which can be seen here.
I was the editor of Signatures,
RIT's art and literary magazine for the past two years. The magazine
was recently reviewed was recently reviewed in Writing
in Rochester. This year's issue is something I will
always be proud of; an unbound portfolio of cards designed specifically
for the work they contained. It's just stunning.
I am a
featured Art*o*Mat artist,
with small earrings I designed from vintage playing cards on
their way to being sold in galleries across America .I
have a lot of respect for people that take big chances, and work
towards
serious
goals.
I want to be someone like that. In
my free time, I love to be with my good friends, make new ones, hike,
swim, yard sale, buy
junk I don't need, shop at outdoor
markets, paint, make jewelry, travel, check
out
exhibits
around
town, go
anywhere
with live music... normal twenty-something activities.
Also, I am always interested in collaborating on projects.
I am working towards owning my own studio space/gallery/boutique, where I can combine my love of photography, design, art and jewelry, as well as represent and work with some new, local artists. Keep an eye out for heart.fly studios, hopefully coming soon :)
